Townsend Spring Heritage Festival and Old Timers Day - May 6 & 7, 2016
Bluegrass music (concerts and jam sessions), clogging, arts and crafts, BBQ and other vendors, Appalachian skills demonstrations, storytelling, and wildflower walks. Parking on the premises is $8 a day. Alternatively, FREE shuttle service is available to take people between stops at the Townsend Visitor's Center, Trillium Cove, Little River Railroad and Lumber Co. and Museum, Heritage Center.

Townsend Spring Festival, Appalachian Bear Rescue (10am-4:30pm) - May 6 & 7, 2016
Join Appalachian Bear Rescue at the Trillium Cove Shopping Village to celebrate the 2016 Townsend Spring Festival. Musicians, local artists, food and games will provide lots of entertainment for everyone! Appalachian Bear Rescue will offer educational classes, a guided hike, as well as information about our cubs. Summer Jam will feature a huge display of air- and water-cooled Volkswagens vying for tops in their vehicle category, bicycle show, new and used parts vendors, swap meet vendors, children’s activities, and games.


Great Smoky Mountain Marathon - September 10, 2016
The course for the Great Smoky Mountains Half is a beautiful run through the woods just outside Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The course begins near Heritage High School in the Hubbard Community outside Maryville and ends in Townsend, just under a mile from the National Park boundary. The finish line is at the visitors center in Townsend with beautiful views of the mountains. 619-567-9191


24th Annual Townsend Fall Heritage Festival and Old Timers Day - September 23-24, 2016
A celebration of mountain and Appalachian arts and crafts. Features demonstrations, bluegrass and mountain music, an antique tractor and engine show, storytelling, children’s activities, crafts by local artisans, basketry, spinning, weaving, sorghum molasses, apple butter making, lye soap, beekeeping, and blacksmithing. 9 am-10 pm daily. Events are held at Townsend Visitors Center & Cades Cove.


Blue Ribbon Country Fair - September 24, 2016
Held at the Great Smoky Mountains Heritage Center, the fair is in its ninth year. This annual celebration of the old-fashioned county fair features competition, games, music, historic demonstrations, and more.

The Great Smoky Mountains Heritage Center in Townsend will showcase unique quilts and patterns for quilt enthusiasts and curious visitors, experts will be on-hand to answer questions about patterns and history of quilts, and demonstrations will be given to show how to construct your very own unique quilt.
